Just a nobody

Just a nobody
The sun was setting, slowly moving down from heaven and shining light upon the city. The rooftops of the grey silhouettes that were meant to represent houses, were glistening with the last farewell of this day. While the event of the darkening of the city took place, this last light of the sun shone down upon a man walking down the hardened streets of this world. Giving no attention to all the misery he was passing. Not one look at the grueling spectacle of children having nothing to eat and starving on the cold dark streets. Not a blink when smelling the sewage being flung from the windows down on the street. And not one shrug when hearing the sound of soldiers fighting to the death in the arena to his left. No he was just walking on, trying to forget the harsh reality of his world. The reality he grew up in and the reality that would never change. He was just trying to forget the live he lived in the cabin of his parents. Trying to forget his father being forced to follow the knights to war, to follow the knights to death. Still walking down the road his memories slowly flowed back in his mind: his mother passing away from grief once that messenger had arrived, his sister being brutally murdered by bandits and the knights doing nothing about it. These feelings are what brought him here, the thought of knowing that the knights where losing their once strong bond with god, and them only being loyal to the new king. The king that claimed the throne unrightfully by finishing a duel with his poisoned predecessor. All these thoughts were flowing through his mind as he slowly advanced towards the white building almost shining in between the two grey watchtowers. The building that would change his life.
This was the moment he thought about while he was lying on a red field that was once green on silent plains that where once full with screams of war. The thoughts he had at the beginning of his story almost exactly one year ago. Those thoughts raced to him as he was about to give his final breath. And the despair of not being able to lead his people to the victory they craved, slowly disappeared as the world of darkness grew smaller and the lights of heaven covered his sight. He wanted to give his people the freedom they deserved. But as soon as the battle for everything that was righteous had commenced he felt in his gut that the battle had already been lost far before it had begun. But all these thoughts went blank as he thought back to the slaughter and realized that even though the battle and his life were lost. They wouldn’t be in vain. He knew that the men for who he now laid on this damned silent field of nothing but death where going to have a life, and that thought alone was enough to give him satisfaction in what he had done that fact alone made him realize his life had been a life worth living.
