Simplicity
Okay, you're not taking any chances with anyone down here, not until you have a better idea of what's going on. Quickly you dart inside, crouching down, making sure you're hidden. It's pretty clammy here but it will do.
The voices come closer. They're still arguing about something, you can't quite catch all the words, something about, "...don't care if it's a waste of time, we still have to..." One man sounds older than the other, possibly the one in charge. The younger one, despite the accent, sounds vaguely familiar.
You want to get a good look at them but don't want to risk being seen. At the same time you notice two other things.
First, the breeze is stronger here, as is the salty smell. Far in the distance you can barely hear the repeating whoosh-pum of waves. This just might be the way out, so you can see where you are. On the other hand, you don't want to leave the woman behind, the one you're looking for.
Second, you find an ancient iron key on a string around your neck. The key! That was the reason you came here, to find the book and use the key to... to what? A door, a chest, a secret? And you recall nothing about the book either, save that it exists. The fact that you still have the key is hopeful; you're not completely lost. But that's all you know.
The two men are right outside the entrance, still talking, they pause a moment.
You wait, poised.
