The Heart of Russia

Diamond and Riptide looked at each other, and quickly decided what to do. It was reckless and dangerous, but if they did it right would take less time. Both of them ran forward, opening fire with fully loaded M249s. Bullets buzzed in front of them, making the tree trunks jump as the lead pummelled the bark and tore it apart. Three of the enemy fell, and the others scattered, hiding behind trees.
"Sarge, we need everybody behind us to move up!" Diamond said as he ducked behind a tree.
"You heard the man! Now move like you got a purpose, marines!" The sergeant's voice sounded over the headsets. Suddenly, there was a popping sound as a .50 caliber sniper rifle bullet slammed into the tree Diamond hid behind and exited about an inch away from his head.
"Fuck!" He ducked down and poked the M249 out from behind the tree, firing randomly. Then, in a giant explosion of muzzle flashes, the rest of the marines opened fire. Riptide used his thermal goggles to see how many people were left in the squad. Six lay on the ground, one slumped limply against a tree, and a sniper hid behind another tree further off.
"Alright, we've got seven down and one to go, team," Riptide informed them. "Sarge, any plans for moving?"
