Forest Dweller

You keep going, fighting off your exhaustion- you can't risk falling asleep when your mind is at stake. The cool sea breeze rejuvenates you and you continue your seemingly endless trek along the beach. You're too far to go back to the forest now, and you realize that too late. In your exhausted state you failed to notice that the scenery repeated itself after about a mile. You turn around and go the other way, but find yourself in the same trap. You try running, ignoring your burning legs and going forward as fast as you can. The scenery just changes quicker. Finally, after about an hour of trying to keep yourself awake, you shut your eyes. Maybe things will look better when you awaken again.
Darkness overtakes you...

The next hour seems a bit strange, almost as though you're sleep walking against your will...

Salt water fills your lungs. You scream for air and swim up as fast as you can, but realize that the ocean surface only keeps getting further away. In a crazed madness, you try swimming down, hitting the ocean floor. On it is a dagger. Wanting to die in the least painful way, you take it and plunge it into your head. You open your eyes and see Ayla staring at you in mute horror. Slowly you pull the dagger from her chest. She dies almost instantly.

The villagers understand, to your great surprise. They know what you were forced through, though a lot of them no longer like you or trust you, let alone look up to you.

You don't even notice the assassin creeping into your window one night with the same bloody dagger you used on Ayla in his hand... and you meet the same fate as her.
