Assault of the Sorcerer Kings

The sun. It burns on their bodies almost like fire, slowly cooking them as it has been for the past three weeks. Everyone's body has been showing strong signs of dehydration.

They have already waded through countless scores of the dead, hacking at living corpses for what seemed like every step of the way. They lost a few of their men to the ranks of the undead, but have faired well for the most part. The undead they have encountered thus far have been completely uncoordinated, and seemingly working on independent fronts. But it's been a few days since they've encountered anything.

Sir Kedric looks down at the palm of his hand where the red/brown skin has started to crack and bleed, thankfully not as badly as the rest of his body. Though he can feel the pain in his body and the aching exhaustion of his feet, he and Lady Flora are the only two members of the group which have shown no signs of weakening.

Sir Kedric had known this would be a difficult journey but not nearly this trying. He recalls his utter dismay when he had first realized the true meaning of the name "Land of the Endless Sun". In the land of endless sun, night never came.

The party had spent the first two and a half weeks sleeping in the burning sun, and walking in the sun. It had become a pattern which hadn't changed at all since the first day. Unless you count all four horses and the twenty camels they had brought with them slowly dying along the way until they were left as nothing but an army of common foot-soldiers.

After holding small council with the other three Knights: Lady Flora, Sir Talis, and Sir Gaiman, it was agreed that because of the army's low supply of water, it would have to continue the desert march without camping or sleeping.

Now, after three days of the sleepless walk, the army has come to look almost like the army which it pursues: the living dead. Many soldiers have begun hallucinating and some have fallen dead at the feet of their comrades; too dehydrated and exhausted to go on living.

There is unrest among some of the lower ranking soldiers. Many of them want to turn back, and though the many knights remind the lower ranking men of their duties; the restlessness persists.

The men are exhausted and Lady Flora makes the suggestion to Kedric to stop for a few hours and allow the men to rest. He doesn't want to stop, and sees water on the horizon, just a few hours away. Stopping can mean not moving ever again in a hostile land such as this. But the men need their rest, and he doesn't want to lose anymore to the land. If he has to lose men, he would prefer to do so in battle.
