When I wasn't looking...
I stand by the door watching Amanda playing with a little girl and smiling and laughing... a sight I thought I would never witness. I don't know how long I stood there just watching, but every moment was like heaven. I was scared to enter or speak, lest I break the magic.
Suddenly feeling my eyes on her, Amanda spun around, her eyes filled with anger and fear. She quickly regained her composure as she walked up to greet me, but I could still feel her nervousness.
"You came.." she said quietly. "I didn't think you would..."
"'Manda, who's this?" chirped the little girl. She stood hiding behind Amanda's legs, but peeked out to look at me.. strangely curious and cautious at the same time.
"Oh this is just a... friend" Amanda said slowly.
"Oh kay", said the little girl with a twinkle in her eye. Suddenly she ran up, grabbed my hand and pulled me into the playroom. "I'm Judy. Amanda's been coming here for years and years and years. She loves playing My Little Pony with me and guess what? my favorite one is the little one named Pinky cuz she's gots pink hair and you know what? I got her when I was only 2..."
We spent the rest of the evening playing with the children and it was like I was in a whole different world.
