The Adventures of Fudge E. Numpkins
Fudge E lived with his Uncle Dunder in the village of Ydiam. Uncle Dunder (who was not actually his uncle, but a kind old man who took him in) was the village scribe and one of the most revered elders in all of Fudge-A-La.
One night, in the middle of the Ninth Month, there was a sudden snowstorm. The icy wind whipped against the cottages and hovels and howled with a devilish moan. Numpkins huddled together in the corners of their homes, afraid to burn fires since their chimneys were stopped up and frozen. Many were afraid that the storm would never pass.
Uncle Dunder wrote furiously in his journals, chronicling every piece of hail, every gust of wind, until his hand hurt. He closed the journal and stood up for a moment, rubbing his wrist in anxious anticipation. Uncle Dunder never felt at ease unless he put ink to parchment. He kept sparse light in the form of two small candles, just enough light to write by. He made his way towards where he believed his bedroom was to grab another overcoat to warm himself in the chilly midnight. Uncle Dunder lived alone and always had. He never married and his home appeared as such.
