When I wasn't looking...

I go to the address Amanda gave me and am surprised by what I find.

An orphange?? I check the address three times to make sure I have the right place.

I am still in a state of shock as I walk into the old run down building and see a friendly old lady at the front desk.

"Can I help you sir?" she asks.

"Ummm... yeah.. I'm looking for Amanda..." I say slowly.

"Oh Amanda! She comes here after work every day to help cook supper and play with the children, and sometimes even stays and reads them bedtime stories! She's such an angel!"

I've never heard her described as an 'angel' before, and I realized there was a whole different side of her I never knew...

"Come," says the old lady smiling. "Amanda should be in the play room right now." She takes my hand and leads me down the hallway. "I'm so happy! She has never brought friends here before! I was beginning to get worried." Her voice takes on a mortherly tone. "It will be good for her to spend time with kids her own age for a change."

I try not to laugh at being called a 'kid', but I guess this lady IS old enough to be my mother. She looks at me with a twinkle in her eye and a broad smile, as we reach the door of the playroom.
