The Dangers of Dark Forces
"The only way we are going to make this work is if I know what Mr. Stark is up to, isn't it?" Darrin asks with a look controlled defiance hiding the fear behind it.
"That is true, child." Madame Laveau says looking at him. "But I don't want to you think this is going to be some easy choice to make. Jacob is a danger to whomever he is around, including himself, so don't go in blindly. You have to watch your step and mind your surroundings at all times."
"Don't worry Madame." Darrin says, trying to smile. "I won't be stupid about this. I just need to have some idea what I am looking for and what I need to do once I find it. I know it will be dangerous, but if I have to do this, I want to make sure I know all I need to going in."
Lisa leans forward and boldly speaks. "All WE need to know before going in."
Darrin looks at her, as if about to tell her she can't go, but she glares back at him with a defiant look he dared not deny. Seeing his hesitation and then acceptance she smiles softly at him and gives him a slight nod. He tries to give her a weak smile back and returns the nod.
"This is good." Madame Laveau says, looking at them. "Love is a force that can protect you in the dark times. Don't let go of that. You will need it before this passes."
Darrin tears his gaze away from the beauty of Lisa and looks at Madame Laveau again. "So what should we know before we go and do you know where Mr. Stark may be?"
"There is little I can tell you, other than to be careful and watch out for signs of things lurking in the shadows. You must find out his plan and how soon he going forward with it before any idea of what to do to help or stop him can be formed. Do not leave to quickly, before you know all you need, but do not linger too long and let things come to pass that should not. Come back to me as soon as you know enough and we will work out what to do then."
Madame Laveau stands up starts to walk out of the room through the side door. Before she exits she turns back to face them. "In the meantime I will be seeing what I can cook up here to protect you as long as I can. It's dangerous, as it brings energies forth that the others will be able to detect, but you will need all the help you can get. Now hurry on, you two, there is no time to waste."
Darrin takes Lisa's hand. It feels so warm in his, and soft. A sense of something flows through him, a surge of energy, or something. Knowing she is going to be right beside him fills him with both courage and dread.
What if something happened to her? He thought.
It would be all my fault. I love her, I can't let anything happen. I shouldn't be putting her in danger, but she would never let me do this alone. But, I also can't imagine doing this without her.
She smiles at him again and his heart about melts. Her beauty shines through her eyes and into his very soul. It's now or never. He has to decide what he is going to do. What he should do. Is he going through with this and risk everything? Even the life of his love, whom he just managed to find in the first place? Is it worth doing that much?
