Borkka

The old hag already has a fire burning and you make your way over to the little cook-fire, picking up a brand with one hand and looking to Alkar and Yornalla.

"Let's torch the bitch," You say to them. The agree whole-heartedly, each of them picking up and weilding their own flaming sticks. You hold the flame to the walls, to desks, to cabinets, and to dressers. The wood is quite dry and it goes up like flame to an old parchment. It is not long before the entire structure is engulphed in fire.

The three of you stand outside and watch as the flames eat away at support beams and the structure begins to collapse before you.

As one of the support beams buckles you see a humanoid figure bathed in flame come frantically charging and screaming from the hut towards your group. As it comes nearer you ready your club, prepared to bat the thing away before it does any real damage to any of you.

The body falls face down to the ground just a few feet from you. It twitches for a few moments before going very still. Smoke curls up from the smoldering body and the scent of burned flesh is rank in the air. You fight the urge to vomit and hear Yornalla losing that battle behind you.

The three of you stare into the flames as the inferno before you dwindles to charred remains. It is a long while before any of you speak.

"Can we go home now?" Yornalla asks.

You are about to agree, your own longing for home amplified upon her suggestion, when Alkar disagrees.

"We cannot just leave," He says. "There must be something here that will tell us if she was behind this."

"I thought that by burning her and her home to the ground, we agreed that she was the culprit," Yornalla argues.

"We would be foolish to leave without securing evidence," he shoots back at her.

"The evidence," Yornalla replies coldly, "will be found at home. If our people still walk in their sleep, then we were wrong. I am sure that will not be the case."

There is a moment of silence.

"I love your confidence," he says to her. You turn away reflexively, certain that they are about to be affectionate once more. You fidn yourself wishing that you had somehow managed to leave Alkar inside the burning structure.

"However," Alkar continues, "I think it should be Borkka who decides which path to take."

"Me?" You ask incredulously. "Why is it always up to me?"

Alkar shakes his head a little and smirks. You'd like to knock that stupid smirk from his face. "Because you are the third party, of course."

And so you find yourself faced with another decision.
