Wasting no time you quickly rip your pistol from it's holster and pull the trigger, unleashing the thunderous fury of the hand-cannon. The bullet cuts through the air like a comet through the sky and buries itself in the Vigilante's chest, knocking him off his feet and onto his back. You resheath your revolver and look around the stables to be sure that you are in no further immediate danger.
The stable boy stares up at you in shock as you dig your heels into Betty's flanks and ride out of the stables into the dusty street that runs through the center of the town.
You drive Betty along the road towards the outer reaches of town and risk a glance over your shoulder. The Vigilantes are still mounted and are galloping towards you.
You curse inwardly or aloud, you cannot be sure which, and dig your heels into Betty's flanks. A gunshot rings out behind you and a bullet buzzes past your ear like a carpenter bee shot from a cannon.
You try to spur your steed to faster speeds, but she does not seem able to accelerate any further. You look back again and cannot help but feel discouraged when you see them gaining on you.
You kick again and again at Betty's flanks, but realize that it is a losing battle. They will reach you soon enough.
Another gun shot rings out behind you and this one rips through your shoulder like a knife of fire and leaves a gaping hole in your chest when it exits.
You amaze yourself by remaining mounted as your horse bolts out of town. It isn't long before you become to weak to maintain your grip on the reigns, however, and you soon topple from the saddle to the hard earth below.
The Vigilantes are there to finish you off and you are thankful that the pain ends soon.
