Paul's Kingdom

You step up to Alicia, blocking her way a bit. She cocks her head to the side.

"Do you want something?" she inquires.

You clear your throat. What a time to not be able to speak. "Well, Alicia. My name is Paul. Paul Ruebba."

Alicia scrunches her eyes and then nods vigorously. "Oh yes! I remember you, Paul. You're the boy who told Mr. Frances to be quiet when he was yelling at me last year."

You are relieved that she remembers your name, and especially happy because she remembered a good memory about you. This could go somewhere.

"Do you want to be my friend?" you ask.

Now Alicia's expression turns to confusion. "What? What are you talking about..."

And then it breaks down. You become hysterical. "Please, please Alicia. I love you. I've always loved you. Just say you love me."

Alicia now looks scared. You are still blocking her way. "Let me go, Paul. I want to leave. Let me go."

Alicia tries to plow through you but you catch her arm. You try to tenderly kiss her cheek, but it instead turns into a mad chase for her face as she squirms and writhes in every direction.

"Stop!" she screams. "Let me go!" You are oblivious to all the people staring at you, yelling at you, running away from you. You must kiss Alicia!

And then you are wrenched away from your love by Mrs. Crosby.

Paul had a miserable life. It all had begun to unravel when he was in second grade. And only now, at the age of twenty-two, had he figured it all out in his head.

His mother had left his father. His dad was depressed because of that. He had tried to kiss Alicia Gesdef and was punished. Everyone had laughed at him for the rest of his life.
