Assault of the Sorcerer Kings

"We should be alright resting here," the broad shouldered warrior said after some thought. "We'll need two people on watch at a time, though."

"Yer making a mistake, Glavian," said the dwarf to the warrior.

"The horses won't live if we keep riding them like this," Glavian argued.

The dwarf snorted in reply and dismounted his pony while grumbling under his breath. The others dismounted as well and set up a quik camp. The elves took care of the mounts while Ront and Jamis prepared he fire.

"Ye be sure to sleep with an eye open, lad," The dwarf was saying to Glavian's pupil. Jamis nodded, his eyes wide with fear. He could deal with living and breathing enemies with hearts beating in their chests. But those who should be dead... Let's just say he wasn't fond of them.

With the camp set up, the horses tended, and the fire started, all save Ront Ironarm and Swan Willowcreek lay down on their respective bed rolls and attempted to sleep. The dwarf and the elf kept their eyes trained on the distant darkness.

"We should still be moving," Ront whispered to her after they stood there silently for some time.

"I agree, dwarf." Swan said coldly to the grump little warrior. "But I don't know how much longer those horses would have held out. Perhas stopping wasn't such a bad decision."

"I'll be damned," The dwarf said to her, "for a few minutes I thought you had a shred of intelligence to you. Now you sound as empty-headed as that big lummox warrior by the fire."

"Be calm, Ironarm. We are still alive you know," the druidess said in a soothing voice.

"Aye, we are," Ront returned. "For now, at least, we are alive."

The dwarf walked away from the druidess and trained his eye on the darkness in another direction. Time passed in the silence of nature, the fire crackling behind them and the crickets in the distance. Hours went by and it was nearing the time when the dwarf and the druidess needed to switch sentinles for the watch when the dwarf cursed under his breath and directed Swan's gaze to what he saw in the distance.

Swan followed his finger to see the form of five figures flying in their direction, just above ground level.

They woke the party up and Ront briefed them on what approached. "I can't be sure, but I think it's some of them vampires."

"We should mount up, then," Jamis said with a shakey voice.

"No," Said the tall warrior known as Glavian. "There are only five, you say?"

"Aye," The dwarf confirmed.

"Then let us battle these five abominations and be done with them. If we run now, they will only follow us further," Glavian said nobly.

Austius reached for his dual-bladed sword at his back and drew it forth. "Let's get rid of these things once and for all."

"I don't know," The dark haired rogue said. "I'm with the kid. Let's get the hell out of here while we can.

The druidess looked to the dwarf with an arched eyebrow. "What do you say, Ironarm?"
