Ducky Park
Water Park
A fish out of water would be a terribly inaccurate representation of Frank the Fish’s legacy. You walk past the wooden coaster and an empty lemonade stand before you find yourself near the big wave pool.
"Hey," One of the swimmers calls, "It's Frank the Fish!" You turn to see a young lady with the body of a model wearing a provocative bikini. She is dripping wet from the water slide and approaches you. She reaches out and hugs you. You return that hug with enthusiasm, holding her perhaps a little longer than you should. Eventually pulls away and leaves you standing there grinning like an idiot behind your mask.
You wander around the water area waving to families and generally being a positive representation of everyone's friend, Frank the Fish. You hug and pose for pictures for a couple of hours as you meander through the Water Zone. You feel like coming here was a great choice. Everyone absolutely loves you here.
Walking past the wave pool again, you hear a cry for help and turn to see a child struggling to stay above the surface out in the deep end. The boy is frantic and the life guards don't seem to notice. A hushed panic overtakes the crowd. Someone shouts “Oh my god!” The lifeguard at last notices the child and climbs down from his perch.
“He won’t make it time,” you say as the child slips under the surface. The kid isn’t that far from where you stand, just a little two foot fence to hop and you could save him.
You are Frank the motherfucking Fish. Friend of Happy Duck. Hero of many adventures. Frank the Fish doesn’t hesitate in moments like these. You start moving toward the pool. You hop-vault your way over the little fence and stumble on your landing. You stumble down the little hill and skid off the cement and land in the water with a big splash. A wave rolls in, the kid’s head pops up above the surface.
The water quickly saturates your suit, the big silver fish sinks below the surface. You see the lifeguard reach the kid and pull him to safety as you bounce lightly off of the bottom of the pool. The motion of the pool gently rocks you as you struggle to breath.
You try to escape the costume but with the zipper in the back there’s no real way out of this thing. Despite looking like a fish, the costume does not let you breathe water. Your lungs fill up, you kick and spasm. Panic overtakes you, your arms and legs feel heavy and cold.
Elsewhere the lifeguard and child are out of the pool. The world begins to fade. You don’t know if anyone saw you, if anyone is coming to rescue you, but you realize that it doesn’t matter. You will die before anyone reaches you.
As your mind begins to play your greatest hits memories you remember the girl at the gift shop telling you about the costume’s curse.
Frank the Fish, dead at the bottom of the wave pool.
You had a fish when you were younger. When it died, it floated to the top of the tank. You wonder if you will float up like your fish did.
