Summer Vacation

You put on your glasses which you hardly ever wear, to make yourself look as studious as possible. You'll need the appearance of academic credibility for the story you're about to tell.

When you walk into the kitchen, your mom is making oatmeal for breakfast and your dad is reading the newspaper.

You try to look serious and say. "Dad, Mom, I just wanted to ask you guys whether it's ok if me and Matt go up to Stanford and Berkley over the break, and see what sort of summer programs they're offering this year."

Your Dad raises his eyebrows. You know you look like a total liar. Luckily it passes for modesty about your new found academic motivations.

"Why sure Son, your mother and I have been waiting for you to show that sort of initiative for some time!"

You smile awkwardly, and your mom beams at you as if you had just offered to do all the housework for a month!

"Why that's wonderful dear! It's not like you to give up your holidays for your studies!"

"I admire you son. I never did anything like that when I was a boy. Just make sure you take some time off and look around."

It's worked like a dream. You can hardly believe it! You call up Matt and laugh about it over the phone. "Dude, you are AWESOME! You should become like an .. actor or something"
