You run right into your ex, spilling beer on her shirt and almost knocking her down the stairs. "Are you OK?" you ask her as you catch her before she falls. When she looks up at you, she looks angry, but when she sees that it's you, her angry frown melts into the warm smile that can usually be seen on her face. "Sorry," you say to her. "It's OK," she replies. "Hey, I've gotta ask you something." "Alright, go ahead." "Thanks," she says. She takes a deep breath and asks, "Why have you been avoiding me this whole night? Is there something you're not telling me?" "NO," you say, hoping and praying that she doesn't already have the wrong idea. "Because," she interjects. "If there's someone else I can understand." "No," you continue. "There's no one else. Only you. I just thought that you were cheating on me with the new guy. At least that's what everyone has been saying for a while." "Oh, no. I'm not cheating on you. The new guy is just a close friend." "How close?" you ask her. She stares blankly at you as if she doesn't know what you're talking about. Then, her face lights up as she finally gets the point. She laughs and says, "No, not THAT close. You have nothing to worry about." You sigh with relief as she says, "Well, I've got to go.
