Ducky Park
You catch the kid completely by surprise. He is standing with his family having an animated conversation with a giant mascot duck one moment. The next moment he is hit from the side by a perfect form tackle from a giant plush dog who drives him into the pavement beneath you. You hear the wind leave his body on impact.
“That’s what you get for punching me in the nuts, kid!” You shout, climbing to your feet.
“Yo what the fuck!?” Happy Duck is saying.
The kid’s mom is helping him sit up as he struggles to catch his breath. The dad is walking over to you. He looks really mad.
I wonder what his problem is, you think.
“What is wrong with you?” Happy Duck asks.
“That kid punched me in the nuts,” you explain to the duck.
The child gets a breath in and an agonized wail of pain erupts from him. He is holding one of his arms at a strange angle.
His dad rips the mask off of you and punches you in the face. Your vision gets blurry and your nose is immediately gushing blood. Another two punches hit you in the gut followed by a final hit that strikes your temple. The ground rushes up at you. You find yourself face down on the blacktop, the world is spinning all around you. Try though you might, you cannot seem to return to your feet.
Security arrives soon and they pick you up. “Thank god you’re here,” you tell them on wobbly legs. “That man just assaulted me.”
The protests of people in the crowd and the words of Happy Duck himself are enough to condemn you. They do not listen to your account. You are stripped of your uniform and removed from the park.
The parents of the child sue Ducky Park, who in turn sues you. Your father curses you most nights. He has to take on a second job to work off the debt from the lawsuit. His one joy in life seems to be beating you with his belt. He does it nightly.
Ducky Park did this to me, you think. They will pay. Oh, how they will pay.
If only you could come up with a plan…
