Humanities weakness.

You duck under the beast’s legs just as its massive, bone-tipped arm crashes into the stone behind you, sending a gust of air through your hair. The sheer force of the strike causes cracks to splinter across the cave floor. Wasting no time, you drop onto your stomach and frantically army crawl beneath the towering creature. As soon as you clear its reach, you scramble to your feet and break into a sprint.

The beast lets out an earth-shaking roar and gives chase, its colossal footsteps hammering the ground with terrifying force. The entire cave trembles under its weight, sending loose rocks tumbling from above. Each swing of its enormous arms slams into the cavern walls, causing deep fractures to spread like veins, further destabilizing the structure.

Up ahead, a faint glimmer catches your eye—the moon’s reflection. The cave exit is close. You push your aching legs harder, breathing ragged as you race toward freedom. But just as hope swells in your chest, the ground ahead abruptly disappears. A wide gap stretches between you and the exit—the path must have collapsed during the chase.

With no time to hesitate, you take a leap of faith. You barely clear the gap, your body slamming onto the rocky surface on the other side. Pain sears through your shoulder as you crash into the wall, scraping against the jagged stone. Gritting your teeth, you roll onto your back, groaning in pain.

Behind you, the beast lunges for the other side. Its sheer size works against it—it doesn’t make it. One massive hand claws desperately at the ledge, barely holding on as its lower half dangles over the abyss. It snarls, struggling to haul itself up, but the unstable cave has reached its breaking point.

The ground trembles violently. A deafening crack echoes through the cavern. The beast lets out a furious roar, but it’s cut short by a sickening thud. You watch as the ledge gives way, sending the creature plummeting into the darkness below. A cloud of dust and debris rises as enormous boulders rain down, sealing the pit beneath an avalanche of stone.

Breathing heavily, you push yourself up, watching the last of the falling rocks settle into place. “The rocks got him… the rocks got him…” you whisper shakily, trying to convince yourself that it’s over.

Turning away, you set your sights on the satellite station in the distance. If there’s any hope of finding help—or at least answers—it’s there. You start walking, but then pause.

There’s a shortcut. A much faster route through the dense forest, but it’s dangerous. The long way is safer, but you can’t shake the feeling that you won’t be alone if you take it.

Do you risk the shortcut, or take the long way and face whatever lurks in the darkness?
(It’s heavily suggested that you take the long way for an interesting encounter.)
