Doors and More Doors
You press level 18 and watch in horror as the button makes the doors stay open and then stops illuminating itself. You are ALREADY on level 18. 'Oh god!' you scream to yourself. Yeah, you have the right reaction. You jam some other key out of instinct, near the bottom of the hotel. Troops storm the hall and, as the elevator doors start to close, they approach your location. A hand sticks through the doors and the elevator opens itself up again, as if offering you as a gift. The soldier, Singaporean in descent, grins at you. "Nice try," he says, and grabs you by the shirt. "Boys, I got him!" He yanks you out into the yellow hall and holds you by the neck. A man dressed in a suit and a cold smile approaches you. He lacks military garments, but he remains in unwavering confidence. "Let him go," the man says. You're dropped. "I'm Eddie Tan. You know who you are, which is why you know exactly what we're going to do next. All you had to do is just bring real money." He turns to the man who originally grabbed you. "How much was it again?" he quietly asks, his calmness to the level of absurdity. The man's response was robotic: "250,000 USD" Eddie shrugs in retaliation. "Not much to save your own life," he says. "But, no. You wanted to take it as an opportunity to kill my men. Gave us fake money. For god's sake..." He glances sideways and nods, now laughing at what he just said. "What do you have to say for yourself?" he asks, his words like daggers in your heart, the yellow hallway like a hellish cage.
