The Great Sael Adventure 1
You ask nearly a thousand men the whereabouts of a man you knew only as The Commodore. You traipse from this village to that, following clues, dodging red herrings, nose to the ground on the trail of the man you may have loved. Simon the Seafarer points you toward Valencia, where Steve the Skipper send you to Girona, where Antoni the Attorney taps his nose twice and hands you a letter with instructions to take a carriage to Badalona. Finally, Todd the Teller tells you that the Commodore is located in a small village in rural Catalonia, near the valley of Aragon.
There are no roads to this new world. You walk to the small village and knock on an old wooden door of a stone house. The Commodore answers the door; his eyes widen when he sees you—a glint of recognition, a shine of unshed tears. You hear children shouting and laughing, a background of joy and childhood. A woman pokes her head around the door. Dejected, you turn around quickly and proceed to walk away. No one calls after you.
You go back to Todd the Teller in Badalona and demand, "Why didn't you tell me he was married with children?" Todd exclaims, "He's not! He lives with sister!" Well, that explains how there were so many children despite the fact that you've only been back on land for about six months—unless he was living a double life before your two-year Antarctic expedition, I guess, but it sounded like one of the children was like 4 months old, so it would be weird if she had a child that young because she would have had to have had an affair unless their relationship is open I guess, you didn't catch a glimpse of the guy unless it's guys, and who's to say that they were all hers and not theirs, she could be running a sort of rural daycare of sorts—there were seriously a lot of kids and a lot of ruckus, no wonder she needed her brother's help herding sheep.
You once again return to the Catalan village (this time on donkey, now that you know the way). This time the woman answers the door. You ask, "Does The Commodore live here?"
The woman, wearing all black, states, "He died in a horrible accident at the rubber factory :'("
You weep uncontrollably. You never speak again.
