Pencil Sharpener
After handing out the tests the teacher returned to his desk in the front of the classroom, looked at his watch and said “you may begin”. You turned over your paper and started reading the questions. This was just as you had feared! You were clueless on all the questions! All the questions were about history and culture in English speaking countries. You read the questions over and over again: What caused the American revolution? What are the four houses in the Harry Potter books?
“How in the world am I going to answer these questions?” You thought to yourself. You were about to put your pencil to the paper and start guessing when you noticed that your pencil tip was dull.
You were surprised when you noticed that your teacher was suddenly standing by your desk. “I had a feeling you were going to need a pencil sharpener. Here you may have mine.” He said with a smile on his face. The pencil sharpener looked old. It was dirty and had spots of rust on it. Why would you need the teacher’s old rusty pencil sharpener when you already had a perfectly fine one in your pencil case? “Thanks” you say as the teacher walks back towards his desk.
What will you do?
