Pencil Sharpener

You walk over to your friends who are talking about the test. Your friend Emma is wearing a yellow sweater and white sneakers. Your other friend who is listening to Emma is named Robert, but everyone calls him Rob.

“Oh, hey!” Emma says happily “we were just talking about a legend that goes around school about a magical pencil sharpener that makes you do well on all tests”. Rob turns to you “Yea, and I’m telling Emma that even though I would sure want a pencil sharpener like that, I don’t believe it’s real”. Emma looks a little angry now “Sure it’s real” she says, “My dad tried it once! He says that the sharpener always finds it’s way to those who need it! So, you wouldn’t ever see it Rob because you always do well on tests.” Rob leaned back and says “Yea, right”. It still didn’t seem like he believed Emma.

Then the bell rang. You did not feel prepared for this test. The other students ran from the schoolyard and into the school building. You walked much slower than the others, you were not in a rush to take the test.

You were the last one to enter the classroom and everyone else had already found their seats. The teacher was standing in front of the class gesturing with his hand to you that he should also find his seat. “Before we begin with today’s test” The teacher said loudly to get everyone’s attention. “I want to remind you that you are not allowed to use any books or cheat sheets”. The teacher started handing out sheets of paper with the blank side up. “I want everyone to be quiet until everyone has handed in their tests and don’t turn over the paper before I say you can begin”.

The teacher started handing out sheets of paper with the blank side up. “I want everyone to be quiet until everyone has handed in their tests and don’t turn over the paper before I say you can begin”. When the teacher handed you your test you really wanted to take a peek at the other side so that you could look at the questions early.

What will you do?
