Hiding with the other three was risky because he didn't even know where they were and if it would be too crowded with them all. So he opted to hide with Tatum and Emma. A few of the screamers stumbled down the stairs. Someone even fell down. It went silent upstairs. The front door slammed open and someone ran outside.

Where did the gun come from?! It didn't matter. The creature jumped again, probably because it was hit or something. This time, when it came back down, the staircase came down with it. Jack watched how Emma's head was caved in from the debris and how Tatum was impaled by several long and rusty nails before the rest of the staircase came tumbling down and crushed him too.
