Speciation
Gyranophilus palleucus species of salamander adapt to their conditions by possessing no eye pigment at all as it is unnecessary for their survival in the caves. Darker conditions have also enabled genetic drift to favour broader head shape, lack of skin pigment (possessing translucent or light pink skin) and snout shapes mouths. This is beneficial as food sources in these conditions are often hidden in damp crevices which are difficult to access without snouts.
This is a form of parapatric speciation.
