The Unnaturals Prequel - Cataclysm
You charge into the group and almost immediately begin taking hits and getting scratched by the mess of people. You pull out the hammer from your belt once more and starting swinging it into the ribs of those who have already struck you. After repeating this several times, the other people give you a wide berth.
You're finally able to enter the "cafeteria" and realize its barely more than a small snack area. This hasn't prevented the first few people through the door from diving over the counter and grabbing bags of chips, candy and more. Those people are tearing open the food and pouring the contents down their gullet as fast as they can. You realize that you, and everyone behind you, are not going to receive anything if this continues.
The hammer has demanded respect before, maybe it can do so again.
You hop onto one of the tables and begin smashing the steel head of the hammer against the metal shade of a hanging light. The sound it creates is loud and shrill in the small room and after days of mostly silence, people wince as it pierces their ears.
Most people stop in their stampede, even those with the food in their hands. Now that you have their attention, you must stress the importance of not devouring all of the food here and now.
"Listen!" You shout, "We need to ration this food! We have no idea how long we're going to be down here and if we eat it all this instant, we will be in this exact same situation a few days from now!"
Those with the food look down in shame and the people now entering are doing so in an orderly fashion.
"They're right," Someone in the crowd says.
"Fuck you all!" Shouts a man who is holding a bag of chips. He immediately begins eating again. However, he is now the only one and it only takes a few seconds for several people to grab him and wrench the food from his hands. They drag him outside and throw him beyond the edge of the light, into the darkened tunnels.
Now you and several others can take stock of your newly found resources and hand out a small portion to each person. You discover that there is enough to last at least a few days and that should give you enough time to figure something else out. You and some of the stronger, clear-headed people stay in a protective circle inside the room and as you finally drift off to sleep, you know that your trials down here have just begun.
