Unbalanced

You turn to flee from the imposing woman, but in an instant your legs lock into place. She smirks, casually directing the stream of light through the heart of another warrior. He dies quietly, grasping at a tapestry on the cold wall for support.

The woman approaches you, a look of mild curiosity in her eyes. Locked in place, you feel every fiber of your being trying to break free of the spell to no avail as she crosses the short distance to where you stand. Pressing the wand against your chest, she begins to mutter something in a language you can't hope to understand.

"I have come for your head, Wue'le. This is the last time."

For a moment, the eyes stay locked on you, unblinking. Carefully, cautiously, she steps away. Unable to turn your head, you can only hear the gruff voice that has appeared on the stairs behind you.

"You did it you blasted fool. You broke the Balance! There can be no life after this."

A figure clad in black-iron armor steps past you, shoving you to the ground. As you crumple to the floor, striking a smooth statue of a man robed in simple cloth, you slowly feel movement return to your limbs.

"You've been waiting for this for so long, haven't you Mael? Your axe has thirsted for me twice as long now as your heart did." The woman takes a step backward, subtly twisting her free hand into a bizarre claw. Unseen by the warrior, it begins to form a green miasma along her fingers.

"This is not that, or us. The wall is broken. Those two that you summoned-"

"Those two things were not our goal," Wue'le interrupts, suddenly cracking her wrist to her thigh. A long, thin strand of green light snakes down from her palm, forming a hissing whip. "You know well that we sought no more loss of life, ever. The True Seekers have always sought to restore souls, not end them!"

The man lowers his shoulders, bracing the axe in two hands. "I never thought you were lying back then. But goddesses help me I was blind to what you became."

With that, the warrior leap, axe held high.
