/Summary:

"Shepard was an orphan raised on the streets of the great megatropolises covering Earth. she escaped the life of petty crime and underworld gangs by enlisting with the Alliance military when she turned eighteen."

During the Skyllian Blitz (2176?), Shepard demonstrated her extreme leadership when leading ground forces on Elysium. Caught on shore leave in the planet's capital Illyria prior to the Batarian attack of the Vetus system, Shepard was quick to react to Batarian ground forces. Cut-off from the Alliance garrison, Shepard used her concealed side-arm to protect civilians from being seized by slavers and controlled the nearby crowd to push them to retreat into nearby shops. Shepard worked her way through the streets, rallying with police officers and assisting them in fighting off enemy troops. Reaching the police station, Shepard contacted the police chief to gain insight on the situation in the field. Officers near the center of the city reported that any human civilian the Batarians didn't gun down were being congregated in city hall, the enemy stronghold. When the Batarians invade, they do not often seek to conquer; they instead conduct raids that rob their targets of resources and civilians for purposes in their extensive slave trade. Realizing that if they didn't retake city hall soon, Batarian shuttles would quickly arrive to claim their new slaves before Alliance Naval reinforcements could intervene. Shepard took control of the situation, directing Illyria police forces in a daring maneuver to recover city hall. Shepard later commented that her involvement with gangs on Earth granted her considerable experience in fighting within the condensed streets of a city. Shepard directed the police forces to enact guerilla tactics to divide Batarian forces away from city hall. Snipers then eliminated Batarian guards stationed near the vulnerable group of civilians. This gave Shepard and police the opportunity to storm the building with a frontal assault, overwhelming the Batarians. After successfully securing city hall and the imprisoned citizens, Shepard and her forces now held the tactical advantage and were able to effectively repel all further invading ground forces with little difficulty until Alliance reinforcements arrived. Shepards bravery prevented the over 100,000 civilians residing in Illyria from being overrun by Batarians as well as saving the 200 non-combatants that were nearly abducted. Shepard was awarded the Silver Star for her courageous actions. After fully proving her extreme potential on Elysium, Shepard was also nominated and accepted into the N7 program.

During the insurrection on Eden Prime, Shepard was deployed with her squad of N7 operatives ahead of the Alliance Navy's main force to deescalate the situation. Orders were to assist the loyalists who were holed up in the spaceport. The loyalists saw defence of the spaceport as utterly essential in preventing the rebels from gaining an aerial dominance or attempting to escape the system; however, this proved to be a tactical error on the part of the loyalists, as they had to abandon the militia armory. Shepard led her team of 8 N7 soldiers to rally with the loyalists at the spaceport and provide them with much needed reinforcements. After assessing the situation with loyalists leaders, Shepard learned that the rebels had the spaceport completely surrounded with only narrow alleys preventing the loyalists from being overwhelmed. However, without access to munitions from the armory, it would not be long before the spaceport would be indefensible. Unfortunately, the armory rested upon hill making a frontal push to retake it foolish. But Shepard realized the rebels' terrain advantage had made them careless, since the majority of their forces were concentrated at the spaceport, leaving the armory undermanned. Understanding that if they could incapacitate the rebel leadership, the untrained insurrectionists would quickly lose direction and surrender to the more organized opposition. With this in mind, Shepard's proficiency as an engineer shined through when she formulated a brilliant plan to seize the armory. Within the grounds of the spaceport, Shepard and two other N7 engineers discovered a dozen drones that were conventionally used for irrigation and retrofitted them to floodlights. Shepard and the other engineers then dropped the personal shields of their body armor so they could instead divert the energy into their omni-tools so that they could produce as many combat drones as possible. N7 biotics and loyalist suppression fire then provided cover for a force of nearly two dozen drones to pass over the nearby rebel force unscathed en route to the armory. The drones were then aligned around the outside of all windows to the armory. The irrigation drones then simultaneously flashed their floodlights to blind the rebel leaders housed inside the armory while the combat drones used high temperature lasers to melt through the reinforced glass. Believing they were surrounding and completely vulnerable, the rebel leadership was quick to order the surrender of their troops outside the spaceport. The Alliance forces lagging behind the N7 forces arrived shortly after to clean up the mess. Shepard's careful handling of the situation that minimized casualties on both sides held incredible foresight in leading towards a peaceful resolution between the rebel and alliance leaders after the insurrection as cooperation with the rebel leaders proved instrumental in quelling the grievances of the resentful residents of Eden Prime. Shepard was commended for her bravery and awarded the Star of Terra the Alliance's highest honor.

Shepard's early life as a criminal on the streets made her rather undisciplined, as noted by her training office in the N7 program. However, her ability to rally and lead allies as demonstrated on Elysium shows her capability to get results in unexpected situations. Shepard's experience on Eden Prime also showed her aptitude to resolve tough situations in the least violent manner if possible. Shepard's subordinates have taken notice of this aptitude as they remark about Shepard's healthy concern with the wellbeing of those under him. Similar to most humans born on Earth, Shepard does harbor some degree of xenophobic prejudice and this has created some alteractions when attempting to utilize Shepard in joint training exercises with alien forces, but these issues appear to be minor."/
