Mirror To The Past by Chado2423
Chaz looked back on his life with a bit of depression, especially thinking back to the time when his mother had died in 2017. A photo of her smiling happily was currently in his line of sight on the dresser right next to an unopened envelope, which contained a letter from a prestigious university. Chaz briefly gazed toward the photo of his mother, and also looked at the unopened envelope. The former brought both a tear and a smile to his face; the tear because he missed his mother deeply, and the smile because he had truly loved her.

But these feelings were to be pushed down into the recesses of his soul. While sad and happy simultaneously he ascertained that the clothes that best fit his current state of confusing emotions was a white T-shirt, an old Flannel shirt, to go over it, an old white baseball style cap, and an old pair of a generic brand of sneakers. At first he didn't notice that the white T-shirt had a Cheeto's stain on it, but if he could find the gold cross necklace he would normally wear with it, then the stain would be covered up. As he got dressed, feeling a bit blah, he observed that there were two other neck items he could wear, but neither one of them would cover up the stain. The first one he noticed was a goth style spiked necklace, the kind that gives the onlooker the impression that one just doesn't care about anything, anything at all. The second neck covering item he noticed was a necklace that had dog-tags attached, with his name and birth date on them. This second one was good to have, in general, because he could be identified if something went seriously wrong. Yet, that unlikely scenario wasn't the reason he had them. When he wore the dog-tag necklace, Chaz would generally feel that his identity was solid and complete. Chaz wondered if it might be worth the risk of exposing the stain on the shirt, even though he might have a better sense of self by wearing the dog-tag necklace.
