Horror of Horrors!
The canister of Visions And More has holes in the top, like stuff for cleaning the bathtub. You shake it over the spot where Will was standing. A white powder sifts out. As it drifts down, it sparkles with tiny flashes of green and blue light.
The powder hits the pavement. A dark circle forms. It bulges upward, as if someone underground were blowing air into a giant balloon.
That's not Will! Will doesn't have green fur falling out in patches. He doesn't have huge bloodshot eyes or wicked, huge yellow teeth.
The monster keeps growing. Soon it's over seven feet tall. It bends over you. You crouch down to get away from it.
Green stringy drool drips from its mouth. It slimes your face. You spring to your feet and the top of your head slams into the monster's chin.
"Ow, that hurt!" the monster yells.
You stare as you wipe the drool off your face. The monster's voice sounds just like Will's.
"Uh --- Will?" you say.
"Who do you think it is? Superman?"
Your heart sinks. What have you done to your friend?
"It's just that you, um, look...different," you reply.
"I do?" he asks. "I don't feel good. Maybe I have a fever."
He brings his hand up to feel his forehead. When he sees the furry green paw, he lets out a scream. "What did you do to me?"
"It was an accident," you explain. "You turned invisible, and I tried to bring you back. But instead the stuff changed you."
"I knew it," Will yells. "This is all your fault! If you didn't steal that suitcase, everything would be fine!"
"Hey, I'm really sorry," you tell Will. "But you don't have to yell at me. It's not nice."
"Nice!" he screams. "You do this to me, and then you talk about nice? I'll show you nice. Here, see how you like it!"
He grabs the container of Visions And More and shakes it over your head.
There's a roaring sound in your ears. You feel as if a giant is holding your head and feet and stretching you out like taffy.
You stare at Will. The two of you now see eye to eye.
"Look what you did!" you yell. "Now I'm a monster too!"
Will ducks his head. "I'm sorry. You got me mad. Then the monster kind of took over. It's really his fault...I mean, mine. Whatever."
"Never mind 'sorry'," you moan. "'Sorry' doesn't help. What do we do now?"
"Well..." He scratches his head.
"I'll show you 'sorry'," someone yells. "You give me back my property. Or you will both be sorry...very sorry!"
You whirl around and gasp. MagnifiCAT!
"We'd better do what he says," Will mutters.
"No way," you whisper back, "We're big strong monsters now. Let's jump him."
"What if he turns us into toads or worms?" Will frets.
"Do you want us to stay GREEN your whole life?" you demand.
"Maybe he'll help us turn back," Will points out. "You sure don't know how."
"But can we trust him?" you counter.
Will shrugs. "It's up to you," he tells you.
Now what?
