Horror of Horrors!
You pull the cork out of the neck of the bottle labeled GINNY'S SPELL-OFF. Blue smoke streams from the open bottle. It smells like a mixture of dirty gym socks and really old eggs.
Gagging, you hold the bottle away from you.
The smoke doesn't drift away. It clumps into a cloud the size of a beach ball. It floats toward you. Your eyes widen. There is a huge blue face inside the cloud. You must have released a genie from the bottle!
"Will you help my friend?" you ask. "I spilled Disappearing Powder on him."
The genie doesn't seem to hear you. "Welcome to Ginny's Spell-Off," he announces in a weird, rumbling voice. "Here is your first word."
"Hey, wait, I ---"
"If you are correct, you win one wish," the genie announces.
"A wish?" you repeat. "Uh, what if I'm wrong?"
"Then you join me in my blue cloud and become my servant for eternity."
"I-I d-don't think I want to play," you stammer. "Can I quit now? Please?"
The genie ignores your plea.
"Your first word is...," he says.
He mumbles something that sounds like air. His deep, rumbling voice makes it hard to understand him. You think maybe the word started with a TH. "Er --- would you mind repeating...?" you begin.
"Five seconds," the genie cuts you off. "Four...three..."
Part of the cloud of blue smoke forms itself into a gigantic hand. It reaches for you.
Spell something!
