Knocking on John’s door, you were curious how he would react to being Chris’ dance date.

John answered in his usual t-shirt and jeans.

He seemed happy to see you, and your heart melted when he gave you his usually bear hug that left your breathless.

You quickly told him of what just happened. How Chris just asked if you could be his date for the fraternity dance.

John says it is your choice and he has no right to stop you.

You asked him how he felt about it.

John looked deep in thought and just shrugged.

After a brief pause, he told you to be Chris’ date.

In which, you caught a glimmer of hurt in his eyes... so you asked again, “you sure?”

“Yep,” he said as he crossed his arms and sat on his bed.

You also mentioned the carnival coupons and that you would buy them soon.

John seemed to acknowledge this and then gave you another one of his tight hugs, holding you a little tighter than usual.

You wondered if he was truly okay with this, but didn’t ask further.
