Marooned on Giri Minor
You raise your good arm to get Dr Munro's attention. "No… no stasis," you manage to say. Speaking is more difficult to accomplish than you expected.
Dr. Munro is taken off guard by your protest, but she stops prepping the stasis generator. "I know my PhD is in xenoanthropology," she says, "but I assure you I'm also certified to administer medical aid."
You sense that was supposed to be an attempt at humor, but you are in no position to laugh, and Munro herself looks to be extremely tired. "What happened?" you say, but your voice is very weak.
Dr. Munro looks as though she couldn't understand the question, so you ask it again.
"We crashed," she says, "night before last. Captain Siggo told Commander Andrade something about an abandoned colony nearby, so right away she and someone else set off to find it. That was two days ago, and no one has seen or heard from them since."
"Where is the captain?" you ask.
"Dead. Lot's of people died that night." You can tell she is pained to provide that last bit of information.
You want to look around to see who else is here, but your head hurts even more when you try to lift it.
"You really need to rest," Dr. Munro insists. "You have multiple fractures, and there is not much I can do about them here. You might not make it; it will depend on how long we're stranded here. That's why I was going to put you in stasis, because of your fragile condition. A stasis generator is the one useful thing we do have. But if you don't want to, that's your decision."
"Water?" you say, but Dr. Munro's expression is grim. "There isn't any," she says.
She gets up, but because it hurts so much to move your head you can't see where she went.
