You sign the papers without further question and are whisked away to another room where with the aid of a holographic projector, an instructor goes over some basic survival tips. In your private opinion they're the sort that only an idiot who had done zero research before making this life altering decision would need, but then again, they probably do get their fair share of those.

The actual process of the jumpthrough is demonstrated as well, and you're made to practice it within the simulation. In short, you'll enter a reinforced circular chamber with a sealed portal at the other end. The portal is keyed to a certain type of energy signatures in the 'safe' range, which are believed to indicate certain details about the destination. When the portal opens, you must jump. The signature changes rapidly and hesitation could mean you end up somewhere very much not suitable for life.

"Now, I recommend you get a good, filling dinner and a good night's sleep," says the handsome yet boring looking instructor in the suit. "Because I shouldn't need to explain to you that it might be the last one you have for awhile. There's plenty of time to have a look around the station and enjoy yourself, but too many of our volunteers go hogwild and make the jump hungover and miserable."

He goes on to explain to you however that a number of restaurants and entertainment facilities are available to you for free, with escorts available ("Not that kind of escort, sorry...") as well as a state of the art holosuite with an extensive library of simulations on file.

"Just whatever you do, make sure you're in shape to make it back here by 0700 hours sharp."
