The Sanguine and Blackbeard's Cutlass

You’re almost out of breath and allow Quetzalli to lead you into the underwater passage. As soon as you enter, a swift current takes ahold of you and Quetzalli. Unable to resist the current’s strength, you preserve your energy and let it run its course. It takes you down several narrow corridors. Your vision begins to blur at the edges as you’ve reached the end of your breath. You need air, badly. Just as the world begins to go dark, you’re thrust out of the water into an open cavern.

“Even from another civilization, men are all the same,” Quetzalli says.

Semi-conscious, you realize you landed on top of her and the two soft rocks your head rested upon were not, in fact, two soft rocks.

“Sorr—” you attempt to say before coughing up water. Luckily, you get most of it on the cavern floor and not Quetzalli.
“Sorry, I must have passed out,” you finally manage to say rising to your feet. You stretch your hand out to Quetzalli.

She grips your hand and you pull her up. “The others aren’t as experienced swimmers. They will have to journey the long route.”

“So it’s just the two of us then,” you comment.

“Looks that way. Don’t worry, the others will catch up,” Quetzalli says.

Quetzalli whispers incoherent words towards her spear and the tip begins to glow allowing you to see. The water stream that brought you here fires into another crevice on one side of the cavern, one that is too small for a person to enter. You get a sinking feeling there is no way to retrace your steps. The only way is forward. A tunnel lies at the opposite end of the cavern, the only way out. You take stock of yourself. At least your sword and dagger stayed on you. Besides being soaking wet and missing your hat, you’re ok.
