Just Another Day

You see that your crush, Blake, has nothing to defend himself and one of your teammates looks like they are planning to hit him. Without hesitation, you roll the ball to him.

“Blake!” You call, so that he notices it.

He looks you way and sees the ball in front of him. Then he smiles that beautiful smile that you believe could melt Antarctica, as it is full of warmth, and shouts, “Much appreciated!”

“What did you do that for?” hissed Sally, the girl who was about to pelt him, “He’s not on our team Stupid!” Then she throws the ball that she is holding at you.

Suddenly, another ball comes whizzing through the air right at you! It gets closer and closer . . and nails Sally in the shoulder.

“Lesson 1: Never let you guard down, Sally!” calls Blake from the other side of the gym. You smile in satisfaction.

The rest of the game passes without much more happening, except for your least favorite person, Amber, nailing you in the stomach and getting you out. The bell rings and you drop the dodge ball you’re holding and walk to the corner to grab your jacket.

Afterwards, before you can rush back to the class that you are supposed to be in, Blake stops you and, a bit nervously, uttered, “Thanks for helping me out back there.”

“No problem,” you reply, not being able to think if anything else to say. How weird. Blake is never nervous. "Is something wrong?" You wonder.

“I was just wondering: would yo . . .” he seemed to forget what he was going to say as he trailed off.

“Yes,” you prompt, feeling hopeful, “Would I . . .?”

“Wouldyougooutwithme?” he blurted.

You frown, “Sorry, I didn’t understand a word of that.”

“Would you go out with me?” He repeats. What should you say?
