Just Another Day

Once you arrived at the Nurses office, you sit down on the burgundy bed and cross your arms. You’ve never been there inside before and your nervous about what she’ll say.

“Hello there sweet heart. I’m Mrs. Stark but you can call me Nancy,” Nancy warmly started and then shut the door behind herself. She starts to move across the relatively small room and slowly seat herself in the chair opposite of you.

You smile feeling your body start to relax and you respond with, “Ok.”

“So, what seems to be the problem?” Nancy inquires.

“I just don’t feel great.” You answer hunching over slightly to sell the concept.

“I see. Well, why don’t I take your temperature and we’ll go from there.”

“Uh, ok.”

You start fidgeting while Nancy turns in her chair to grab the thermometer machine from her desk drawer. She turns back and presses it into your mouth. It reads a normal temperature.

“Well, you don’t seem to have a fever.” Nancy proclaims standing next to you looking at the thermometer. “Are you sure that your sick?”

“Uh, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t.” You answer inching away from her.

“Alright. Why don’t I walk you back to class. That way, you won’t be marked absent for coming to me. Let’s go.”

Nancy pats you on the back and leads you out into the hallway. She walks you all the way back to class and talks to Mr. Clark about what you were doing. You slip into your seat and look down trying to avoid the watchful eyes of your classmates staring at you.
