The fellowship decides to retreat down the mountain. With much difficulty, they manage to reach the bottom. But now they must decide which path to take. They could follow the path to the Mines of Moria, though that name strikes fear in their hearts. The only other option would be to follow the path through Rohan, but then they must pass close to Isenguard, where they would meet another fearsome enemy: Saruman. Which path should they take?
