Erinyes Game

“Hey, I think I’m gonna talk to the twins,” you tell your friends.

“Sure, come find us in the game room when you’re done.” With a wave, Hermes and Aphrodite walk off.

You set off in search of the twins. It doesn’t take you long to find them; they’re relaxing together in another entertainment room, this one filled with a bunch of video games and consoles. They’re arguing over which fighting game characters they like better or something.

“Oh, Hestia! Did you want to join us?” Artemis extends a game controller to you. You shrug and accept it, settling down next to her.

“I’m not great at fighting games,” you warn them.

“Don’t worry, neither am I,” Apollo tells you. “Artemis always destroys me, but at least I beat her in other games.”

“Yeah, like what? Farming simulators? Idle games where all you have to do is click and wait?” She teases him.

For a while you just listen to their sibling banter and laugh to yourself as you play and, of course, get beaten by Artemis.

“Just you wait, we can beat her in racing games,” says Apollo, sighing as his character is destroyed by Artemis’s yet again.

Eventually the three of you get a little bored of playing and turn to each other, sitting in a little circle.

“Hestia, I have something I’d like to confess,” says Artemis.

Apollo places a hand on her shoulder. “Are you sure that now is the right time?”

She nods. “Yes. I think we can trust her, too.”

“What is it?”

“The thing is, I’m the Oracle. I can see any Olympian’s status in the morning, at the start of the Hemera phase.”

“Wow…” You can’t believe it. “Why didn’t you tell anyone to begin with?”

“I was afraid of being targeted by the Furies…”

“I get it. Did you look at your brother?” You ask out of curiosity.

She rolls her eyes. “Of course I did. He’s an Olympian.”

Apollo winks, which you ignore. “That’s good, then who else were you able to look at?”

“Aphrodite, Athena, and you.”

“And the verdict is?”

“You and Aphrodite are in the clear. But Athena…” Artemis hesitates.

“What, is she Charon?” You take a guess.

“No. She’s a Fury.”

You reel back. “No way. I want to believe you, but Athena? You’re sure?”

She nods. “Hades lets me pick the person I want to see, and he reveals their status to me. Unless he decided to lie to me this morning, Athena is one of them.”

You bite your lip. “I can’t believe it. She’s so sweet.”

Apollo nods. “I know, but there’s no reason for my sister to lie.”

“I want to stop these deaths as soon as possible,” she says, “And if Zeus was one of the Furies and Athena is another, then we only need one more. Then no one else has to die.”

“It does sound ideal…I just hate to vote for her is all.”

You eventually leave the video game room to think. If Artemis truly is the Oracle, then Athena is guilty. But you have a weird feeling about those twins, though. How terrible.

After a short while on your own, you head to the entertainment room to relay the message to your friends. They’re also stunned and upset, but they understand what must be done. Together, the three of you await the Moirae phase.
