Religion
Christianity challenged the conventional values of their time, urging the renunciation of wealth, and emphasizing the supreme importance of love or compassion as the basis for a moral life. It called for the personal transformation of their followers, through ‘letting go’. It preached non-materialism, forgiveness, and humility. The path to the gateway to heaven was "narrow" because of the restrictions the religion called for. It expected one to be "perfect", not even thinking impure thoughts.
