The Maefians take their place on the southern wall. Among the Maefians are several magicians. Though they seem interested in darker arts than you, they have much information about the Words of Power and you work with them the rest of the day. As you expected, the goblins return at sundown. They strike to the eastern wall as they had done before, but now there is a second horde that attacks from the south. They must have known what direction the Maefians came from. Fortunately, though the goblin force had doubled, you have armies on the high ground ready to handle them.
The goblins are much more wary this time. They do not try to mount the walls, but instead they fire flaming arrows at your garrisons. The magicians are prepared and you join them in freezing the arrows and returning a volley of fireballs. They strike the ground and spread like great pools of flame. The goblins are unable to defend against it, so they run like mad, spreading flame throughout their ranks. Soon the goblin commanders show some sense and shoot down their burning men so that the conflagration ceases to spread. Just when they do, the wall of fire drops.
And your foot-soldiers storm them with yells of anger and victory. To your pleasure, you can see the goblins' fear from your vantage up on the wall. Well before sunrise they are in retreat.
