Outlander
When you arrive, the Horsemaster is there with Merida, a thin young man standing between them.
"Speak, Tolf. Let my lieutenant hear."
The messenger looks at you in surprise. You chose not to react, but you know that you have never officially been named lieutenant in his military. These must drastic times.
"I just rode back at full gallop from the northern shores. There were ships on the horizon. Goblin ships."
You hear a sharp gasp from Merida.
"But goblins have not been seen in Hoofdown- in all of Hakin in hundreds of years!" you exclaim.
"Tell them how many," The Horsemaster says, ignoring you.
"Hordes. Hordes upon hordes. The horizon was colored black with their ships and it spreads like and inkblot on a map."
"Save the poetry for the bards, Tolf. How long do we have?"
"I rode as fast as I could, but we have a day- two days at most before they dock on our shores."
Merida speaks up, "We should rally the clans! Prepare for an attack and meet the monsters head on!"
"I know your opinion, Merida," The Horsemaster replies and turns his gaze to you. "But I want to know your opinion, Nathan."
This is the first time he has ever used your real name. You realize intuitively that your decision will decide Hoofdown's fate.
