Outlander

You trust that reinforcements will arrive, so you stay to command this section of the battle. The events proceed well as the goblins are in full rout before dawn. Merida returns to the gates with few casualties and the blood of goblins staining her sword to the hilt. You are about to join her when a messenger intercepts you both.
"Lieutenant, the Horsemaster-" before he can finish, you and Merida race to the position that the Horsemaster had held during the battle. When you arrive, you see the Horsemaster, surrounded by a dozen dead goblins, but lying in a pool of his own blood. Lucia is tending to him with some of her herbs, but her face seems dire. Yoou come close and see his wound then your heart sinks. He is not going to make it.
"Nathan!" he rasps and you kneel before him.
"Yes, Horsemaster?"
"I will soon be gone, but the people need a leader."
"Of, course, Merida is-"
"No! She is a good daughter, but not a leader. She is too impulsive and headstrong. I choose you." He places a hand on your forehead. "Ride well, Outlander!" With that, he breathes his last. Stunned, you stand and find yourself face to face with the leader of the Falcons.
"My condolences, Nathan," Captain Graff says. "But the city needs to be prepared for another attack. Are you ready to lead, Horsemaster."
You see Merida with cold grief on her face. You see Lucia, kneeling by the dead leader of Hoofdown. You see the soldiers surrounding you, looking for orders.
"I am ready."
