The Great Sael Adventure 1
You break the news to the Commodore that you really must be getting back to the ship. He says he understands, but has already paid for the room for another night with his own personal money.
"Why don't you go ahead to the Luseal. I'll stay here," he mutters indistinctly, rubbing his shoes together, clearly dejected.
You agree to the arrangement and head to bed in your hull of the catamaran. When you wake, the Commodore is nowhere to be found. You return to the boardinghouse he'd been staying at, and the manager hands you a note.
Scrawled in the Commodore's hand, it says
"My dearest Protaganist,
I cannot bear to spend another day with you yet apart from you. I would rather just be apart from you. You're really rude, you know. Playing with Commodore's feelings. I can't forgive you. Nor will I ever forget you and our two days we spent together."
Without the Commodore, you no longer have an employer or a mission.
