Quest oNe

"Of what consequence is my purpose to you?" you ask him.

"Naught. I only wished to discern why such a youngster as you would be in such a treacherous place at such an hour," he replies.

"My business is that of my own," you say, "I only wish to have shelter and peace from this blasted rain and a resting place for my faithful horse."

"Is your heart true?" he asks.

Your eyes catch and you find yourself mesmerized by his deep blue eyes, filled with a sweet, sparkling energy that captures your mind and makes you willing to tell him almost anything. You confidently answer, "yes."

"Then you shall have your peace," he says, and with that the rain around you eases and you spot a tree in the distance, complete with thick full branches that will prevent the now light rain from dripping onto you. The tree is large enough to also cover your horse, which you are grateful for.

You catch yourself with your mouth hanging open, staring at him. You quickly shut your mouth and mull over in your mind all of the possibilities. You aren't sure that this man is a friend. For all you know he could have slowed the rain in order to gain your trust and trick you into falling into a trap. On the other hand he could be a harmless person, fully deserving of your trust. While you were pondering over these thoughts you had been moving closer to the tree. Now you picket your horse in a spot where she can graze and begin to unpack your camping gear. Looking around you are surprised to find a stack of dry firewood close to the trunk of the tree. In little time you are able to get a fire started. All this time the sorcerer has been standing there, carefully watching your every move. He slowly walks towards your fire and begins to shake out his deep blue cloak.

"Do you mind if I join you?" he asks, "the weather is not exactly inviting and I would hate to have helped you only to have you killed by some madman running around the forest. You can provide the fire, I'll provide the protection."
