The Disappearance of Chloe Marsh

ou can't just leave Warren like this! Audrey has her knee on Warren's stomach and she's saying, "This has nothing to do with you!"

"It has everything to do with me!" exclaims Warren. "She's my girlfriend!" Warren then gives her a hard shove but she clings onto his shirt. You move fast, running and yanking her off him. They both scramble to their feet, ready to attack again. You quickly jump between them.

"Stop!" you shout. You left facing Audrey, who's now completely focused on you with a deep scowl playing on her features. You're a little intimidated. You feel Warren trying to get around you.

"What do you know?" he demands. Audrey ignores him. She steps closer to you, but you refuse to back away. She eyes you up and down before speaking.

"You have no idea what you're getting yourself into. Just forget everything you saw."

You say nothing.

Warren pushes you out of the way and faces Audrey himself. "Audrey, if you know-"

"I don't." Then, she turns around and starts to walk away. Warren clutches his fists and goes after her. When he grabs her arm to stop her, she swings around and the top of her head collides with his chin.

"Ow!" Warren cringes. It's then that you realize that his nose is still bleeding and staining his face. You reach and pull him back.

"Stop," you say.

"But-"

"Stop." You pull off your backpack and rummage through it. Ah-ha, tissues. You pull out a pack and open it, pressing a tissue to Warren's nose. You both watch Audrey as she stomps off. When she's almost out of sight, she stops and turns. Your eyes meet. A chill runs up your gut.

"Hey, uh," Warren starts, breaking your focus on Audrey, "thanks. You know, for staying. I mean, I know I told you to go, but..." he sighs. "Um... Listen, I wasn't completely honest before."

"What do you mean?" you ask. You look back over at where Audrey was, but she's gone now.

"About Audrey. I do know her. Very well." he replies. He's grimacing and wiping his nose and chin.

"Oh," you say. "How?"

"We used to be friends." He says it like he's admitting to some sort of crime.

"Used to be? What happened?" you ask.

"Chloe happened." Warren sits down on the bench and rests his elbows on his knees and buries his head in his hands. "I don't know why, but Audrey hated her. She never told me why, and when I asked Chloe, she said she didn't know anything."

You think on this new information for a moment. So, Warren and Audrey were friends. Warren and Chloe were together. Chloe and Audrey didn't like each other. And from the way Warren and Audrey went after each other, you can definitely say that things did not end well among the three of them. You've never seen Warren become so... aggressive. It's kind of scary.

"Well," you say, "why do you think they hated each other? Do you think Chloe did something to her?"

Warren shakes her head. "No way. I mean, yeah, Chloe could be a handful, like I said, but she was sweet." Warren bites his lip, thinking. "...You want my honest opinion?"

You nod.

Warren says, "I think it was mostly jealousy."

"That's definitely a possibility," you say.

"Audrey's used to getting things her way. Getting what she wants. I'm not saying that Audrey had a thing for me or anything, but we were friends, and when I met Chloe... I did start spending more time with her than Audrey, and that might of made her mad." Warren stands then. You can see a bruise forming along his chin.

You decide to ask about the fight.

"That was pretty intense," you say, "I've never seen you like that."

"She knows something," he replies, facing you, "I don't know how she knows something, but she does, and I need to know what. If she has something to do with Chloe's disappearance, I'll..." he stops himself, taking a deep breath. "I don't know."

Warren's nose won't stop bleeding, and soon, you're out of tissues.

"Looks like she got you good," you say.

Warren shrugs. "It's not that bad. Though, I can't say I'm proud to have gotten beaten up by Audrey LaCroix." Warren sighs. "Oh well, I guess it could be worse."

"Yeah," you say.

"I better go take care of this," Warren tells you. "Hey, what are you doing tonight?"

"Nothing," you reply.

"Good. Meet me at Roger's later. Say, six o'clock? I really want to get to the bottom of this," says Warren.

You agree. Warren leaves and you're left by yourself. You go over in your mind the events that took place.

First off, Audrey knew you were in the bathroom. She saw you leave. You know that you overheard her conversation. But, what does it all mean? You try to think back to what you heard. Yes, she definitely knows something about Chloe. The way she said her name... and the person she was talking to. Whoever they were, they were upset. Audrey messed something up, and in your gut, you know it has to do with Chloe Marsh.

You decide to head home. You suddenly feel exhausted. You might need to take a nap before meeting Warren at Roger's.
