The Haunting of Lake Side Cemetery

You want to see the centuries old graves that ( supposedly) are in the center of the cemetery. You walk quickly through the modern portion of the cemetery, eyes trying to take everything is. This really is a beautiful place, so green and lush. It smells of dirt and plant life. You brought some materials to take rubbings on interesting headstones as well as pictures.

Finally you make it to the center. There's a square in the middle full of aged graves. Some are moss covered, many have been damaged, others are simply illegible. You run your fingers over one, its rocky and cold against your skin. These are made from a white stone that is different from the other graves in the cemetery. You squat down and try to read the words carved, but they are too faded.

Moving to another you notice that this one is in much better condition. You snap a few photographs and then focus on the words themselves.

The epitaph disturbs you, but in a good way. This is just the sort of thing readers of your blog want. You keep searching for graves that you can read and find a disturbing trend. They are all children under the age of ten. Usually for children epitaphs are sad but beautiful, but all these graves having disturbing words on them. You see the same sentences over and over.
You will not have eternal rest.
No angel will come to guide you.
We have earned the right to forget you.

Intent upon a rubbing of one that you believe is in the best condition you hear something that freezes your blood- a giggle. Shaking your head you continue, charcoal stick in hand. Has to be your imagination. There can't be a child in the cemetery.

Another small feminine laugh- closer this time.

Wait, didn't you see a school when you drove here? Yes- the closet building to the cemetery is a small elementary school. It's within view. Though you're pretty sure it's still too far away to hear children playing. Maybe if the wind is blowing just right it carries noise?

Finishing with the rubbing you stand up, eyes darting around. There is something watching you, someone besides yourself is in this cemetery. You can feel it. It's like a pressure in your chest as sweat drips down your back. Something darts behind a tree, it's just a fleeting moment and you swivel your head to track the movement, but it's gone. Grabbing your camera you take half a dozen shots in 30 seconds- hopefully the camera will pick up something.

Is it possible this place actually is haunted? Or is being alone in a cemetery with too much wide open space is messing with your head.

You hear the crunch of leaves behind you, as if someone has taken a step and quickly after another laugh- this one not as friendly.
