The Disappearance of Chloe Marsh
You decide to go talk to Mr. Monroe. You'll see Rachel later, so you can talk to her then. You move past Rachel and towards Mr. Monroe. He sees you and smiles.
"Uh, excuse me, Mr. Monroe-"
"Yeah, excuse you," Dahlia interrupts. "Can't you see I'm talking?"
"No, excuse us, Miss Skinner," Mr. Monroe says sharply. Dahlia, once again, glares at you before turning around and stomping out the door. Mr. Monroe shakes his head.
"I try to be so patient with her," he mumbles to himself. "Here, sit down." He offers you a seat, which you take. You wait nervously and watch Mr. Monroe pull your paper out of a stack.
"As I said before, you were the only person in this class to get a 100% on their story, and that's not an easy task. I'm a hard grader. With that said, I'd like to bring something to your attention."
He hands you a flyer with the words WRITING CONTEST on it.
"Writing contest?" you ask.
"Yes. It's Blackwater's yearly writing contest. First place gets a prize of $500, a trip to LA for a week and their story professionally published," he says.
"Wow," you reply.
"Tomorrow, I'm going to talk in more detail about it to the class since the next assignment is to enter this contest, but I wanted to give you a heads up on it."
"Me?"
He nods. "You have a great talent. I haven't read anything like that in a long time, and definitely not from one of my students."
His compliment makes you blush.
"Thank you, Mr. Monroe. That's really cool, y'know, coming from you," you say.
"Well, you better run along. Schools out. I'm sure you have things you need to do, and a quiz to study for." Mr. Monroe tells you.
You nod, thanking him again quietly before leaving the classroom.
You step out into the empty hallway. It seems that everyone's gone home except for the janitor, Maxwell, at the end of the hall.
You sigh and start to move towards the doors. Your eye catches something hanging on the wall. It's a piece of paper. You approach the paper.
MISSING
CHLOE MARSH
There's a picture of a girl your age with curly, brown hair and a freckled face. You recognize this paper. They're hung up everywhere. From what you've gathered, Chloe Marsh went missing over the summer, sometime in June. No one knows where she went. She just... disappeared. You get an uneasy feeling in your gut. You hear Maxwell pass behind you, but you pay him no attention.
You stand there a little longer, studying the paper. Poor girl.
Just as you're about to leave, you realize that you really need to use the bathroom. You better go before you head home. You move down the hall towards the bathroom. When you reach them, you see that the boys' bathroom is locked up with a sign that says OUT OF ORDER.
