Unfortunately, just because the Black Codes are gone doesn't mean everything is smooth sailing. You still have to deal with white supremacy organizations like the Ku Klux Klan, and more oppressive regulations implemented by Jim Crow. Before the 14th Amendment was ratified, you would not have been able to assemble with other freedmen, but now you have the ability to join a movement that promises to help you gain political, social, and economic equality!
