"Oohh yeah, I forgot all about that little guy.." Caleb noted
Craig looked anxiously up at the three young faces staring down at him. With his plan still in mind, he waited breathlessly for an opportunity to escape to the keyboard.
"Hey, you know I heard on TV once that there are countries where they eat crickets...." The dark haired boy mentioned as he grabbed and lifted the cup.
The comment made Craig's blood run cold. He did not like the direction this conversation seemed to be going.
"Ew, that's nasty.." The blonde haired boy grimaced.
"Yeah, why would anyone want to eat bugs?" Caleb responded.
"Bet you'd do it for five bucks~~" The dark haired friend playfully offered as he pushed the cup towards Caleb's face.
The transformed teen made another involuntary chirp of fear as he stared at the giant distorted face of his kid brother through the plastic. The chirp unexpectedly managed to startle the dark haired boy for a moment, causing him to tip the cup slightly horizontal.
"NOW!!!" Seeing the perfect opportunity to escape, Craig lunged up the side of the cup with three quick consecutive hops, sending him flying straight past his brother's face and on to the computer desk.
"Shoot! It got out!" The blonde haired friend shouted as all three boys attempted to cup their hands over the fugitive insect.
Whether it be his human mind or sheer luck, Craig manged to nimbly avoid the three sets of giant hands before landing on the keyboard.
Setting his plan into motion, Craig frantically jumped to the H key first.
"It's on the keyboard!" The dark haired boy pointed as he attempted to carefully capture the jumpy little cricket.
Caleb watched as the cricket manged to narrowly avoid his friend's awkward plucking by jumping away just at the right time.
After about the fifth attempt, it was almost starting to become comical. But It was then that Caleb noticed something odd about the cricket's motion. It almost looked like the bug was jumping in a specific sort of pattern.
".....Wait dude! Stop!" Caleb grabbed his friend's arm and pulled it away just as he was about to finally snatch it. "Wait, look how it's jumping! It keeps hopping to the same spots!"
Craig couldn't believe it had worked. His brother had actually managed to get it!
"What? ...no way..." The two other boys watched before noticing the same thing.
"Huh...that's kinda weird...." The dark haired friend muttered flatly.
"It keeps going to the same four letters.." Caleb pointed out.
"E L P H? What the heck is that?...." The blonde haired boy questioned.
"HELP!" Craig screamed internally as he continued to jump back and forth between the four keys.
".. help?" Caleb suddenly responded.
"YES YES!!!" Craig cried as he attempted to spell out YES, but in his over excitement ended up overshooting the 'E' key and landed on Q.
"...Y Q S??" The blonde tween spelled out in confusion.
"NONONO! I MEANT YES! CALEB YOU'RE RIGHT!!!!"
Realzing his error, Craig frantically started to re-spell "Help" again. However, in his panic, he ended up messing up even more of his landings.
"Wait.. no, now it's jumping all over the place..." The dark haired boy observed skeptically.
"Come on guys, this is stupid.. It's just a bug..." The blonde haired boy rolled his eyes before grabbing the whole keyboard and flipping it upside down.
"NOOOO!!!!!!!" Craig cried out as plummeted back down to the wooden surface of the desk. Before he could even make a move, the plastic cup came down over him again.
"There... got it!" The dark haired boy sneered victoriously as he slid the cup to the edge and flipped it back over.
"Anyways... Like I was saying, I DARE you..." The young teen grinned as he dangled the cup in front of Caleb's face.
Caleb accepted the cup and stared down at the tiny cricket within. He really could have sworn for a second there that it was really trying to spell out words.
"NO! CALEB! PLEASE!! YOU GOT TO UNDERSTAND!! IT'S ME!!!"
"....If you can understand me... make a chirp..." Caleb suddenly whispered softly into the cup as he stared down at the tiny captive critter.
"Wait! YES!! Hold on!" Craig began to rub his hind legs together to produce a chirp. Unfortunately, no matter how hard he rubbed he just couldn't recreate the sound. All the other times he had chirped it was automatic instinct, he still had no idea how to preform it willingly.
After a few seconds of waiting and watching the tiny bug sit silently at the bottom of the cup, Caleb finally conceded to himself that his friends were probably right. What was he even thinking? It was just a stupid little bug.
To Craig's horror, he could see the very moment on his brother's face that boy decidedly dismissed him as being nothing other than a mindless little insect.
"So .....you'd really give me five bucks if I ate it? For real?" Caleb turned his attention back to his dark haired friend, who nodded with confirmation.
Caleb looked back down into the cup again, only this time with a goofy looking smile.
"Haha....... alright......deal~" Caleb hesitantly declared as he began to lift the cup up towards his mouth.
"WAIT CALEB! NO!! I CAN UNDERSTAND YOU!! CALEB NO!!!!!" Craig pleaded as he frantically continued rubbing his hind-legs together within the tilting cup.
Pressing the rim around his mouth, Caleb began to tilt his head back and open up wide.
"NONONONO!!" Craig skittered on the smooth steepening slope as his little brother lolled out his tongue before him. He could see the dark entrance of Caleb's massive throat come into view. His wet glistening uvula hanging above like a giant alien lifeform.
The inside of the cup quickly fogged over from the humidity of Caleb's hot potato chip-scented breath.
The twelve year old watched past his nose as the tiny cricket frantically attempted to jump away as it slid closer to his gaping mouth.
"DO IT! DOOOO IT!! DOOO IT!" Caleb's friends chanted playfully as they egged the boy on.
Tilting his head back fully, Craig landed right onto the center of Caleb's tongue. The cricket's legs instantly adhered to the tongue due to sticky consistency of the boy's saliva . The more Craig tried to struggle the more he bonded to the gooey pink surface.
Craig cried out pathetically as his brother's tongue began to recede back into the darkness of his hot dripping mouth. This couldn't be happening. How could things go this terribly wrong?! This wasn't right! This shouldn't be happening! He wasn't a bug!
Craig's refusal to accept the horrifying situation was only further made irrelevant as a thick tendril of saliva dripped down from the boy's pallet and laced over his tiny green form.
However, in this final moment of turmoil, Craig miraculously managed to finally rub his legs together just the right way to create a chirp. With all his remaining strength and will, the the tiny cricket began to chirp wildly.
"LISTEN!! SEE! I CAN UNDERSTAND!! CALEB IT'S ME!! I'M NOT A BU-"
The noisy bug was immediately silenced as Caleb closed his mouth shut. Partially crushing the critter between his tongue and pallet, the boy quickly proceeded to surround it in a glob of saliva.
Caleb flashed a boyish smirk towards his friends before tilting his head back and.....
*Glck~*
After grimacing a little at the bitter aftertaste, Caleb opened his mouth wide to prove he had actually done it.
The two other tweens laughed as they stared into their friend's vacant, glistening mouth.
