“Really dude?? Giant peanuts?? pffft, you're so full of it!~” Justin scoffed after Danny finished explaining what his father had shown him.
Not surprisingly, his friends weren't exactly convinced by the story. Besides, it wouldn't be the first time Danny had told them a tall tale about his father's work.
“Guys! I'm being serious! The thing is down in my dad's lab right now!” Danny asserted staunchly.
“Okay! If it's real, than show us~” Justin crossed his arms adamantly.
“.....I.....can't” Danny stated,causing his friends to stare back with growing skepticism.
He was torn. Telling them about it was one thing, but letting them actually SEE it was a whole different story.
“Pffft, I knew it. You're such a liar...” Justin sneered. Though Tim and Sam weren't as harsh, there was an unmistakable look of disappointment on their faces.
Not wanting his friends to think he's lying to them, Danny completely caved.
“A-alright fine! I'll prove it!!” Danny suddenly stood up.
The three other teens were surprised by their friend's sudden, bold proclamation. The boys looked at each other hesitantly for a moment before getting up and following Danny's lead. After quickly drying off, the young shirtless boys left the community pool and headed down the street towards Danny's house.
None of them said a word during the short commute. There seemed to be excitement in the air as they approached Danny's house.
-Danny's residence-
Upon reaching his front lawn, Danny turned around to address his friends.
“A-alright look, just wait out here for a minute, I'll go get it” He whispered before running inside.
Making sure that the house was still empty, Danny nervously made his way down to the basement. Stepping inside the cold white lab room, Danny quietly walked over to the desk where he had seen his father store the device the day before. His heart was racing as he pulled open the upper left drawer and stared down at the reflective casing inside. He tried to suppress his guilt as he peered into his own reflection. He popped the case open and grabbed the device, proceeding to greedily stuff it into his backpack before racing out of the room.
“Well???” Justin questioned as Danny ran up to the group.
“Alright.....check it out~” Danny zipped open his backpack, revealing the silver ray-gun within.
The boys surrounded the bag and peered inside at the sleek shiny surface of the device.
The three boys ooo'd and aaah'd loudly before Justin zipped the bag back closed.
“There, do you believe me now?? I TOLD you I wasn't making it up!” Danny stated as he began turning back towards the house.
“Wait wait wait!... You're just going to put it back??” Justin questioned as he grabbed his friend's arm.
“Of course I am!” Danny answered sharply as he attempted to pull away from Justin's hold.
But you still haven't proved anything! For all we know that thing in your backpack just a fancy heat sensor or something. Show us how it works!” Justin demanded as he pulled his friend back.
“Dude, Are you joking??... my dad would KILL me if he found out I used it!!” Danny barked back in resistance. The zipper tag of his backpack jingled loudly in the struggle.
“Well, you kinda already stole it, I mean, you might as well just show us how it works.” Sam suddenly spoke up.
“To be honest, I'm pretty interested in seeing it too. Doesn't your dad not come home for another few hours??” It seemed even Tim had jumped on the bandwagon.
Danny groaned with inner turmoil as the peer pressure continued to build against him.
“Dude! We promise we won't tell ANYONE.” Justin promised pleadingly as he loosened his grip slightly.
Danny took a deep breath and calmed down a bit. Perhaps it would be okay if he was just quick and careful about it.....
“........Alright..look guys....….. I'll show you how it works ONCE.... BUT ONLY ONCE. Got it?? ” Danny reluctantly consented.

“Alright... we'll do it in there” Danny pointed towards the secluded patch of woods across the street.
